An analyzer comprises a mount having an insertion slot (43) for mounting an analysis tool (20), light measuring mechanisms (22, 23) for applying light to the analysis tool (20) and receiving the light traveling from the analysis tool (20) to optically analyze a specimen, and a light shield (63) for preventing the entrance of external light through the insertion slot (43). The light shield (63) is so composed as to prevent the entrance of external light through the insertion slot (43) during the period from the beginning of the insertion of the analysis tool (20) into the mount until the end of a measurement of the light from the analysis tool (20) by the light measuring mechanisms (22, 23).
