[0025] figure 1 is an exemplary flowchart showing a prior art procedure for using a CPAP device to treat a patient with SDB. In step S102, the patient is equipped with a CPAP device. The CPAP device is calibrated for use by the patient at step S104. The treatment is performed in step S106, and the treatment data is recorded in step S108. In some cases, after recording therapy data, the method may recalibrate the CPAP device by returning to step S104 (not shown) before further therapy is administered at step S106.

[0026] Figure 1A A detailed view of the calibrations routinely required for CPAP therapy in the prior art. basically, Figure 1ACalibration including step S104 and related to the above-mentioned prerequisites for CPAP therapy is shown. Specifically, step S104a determines the inherent device noise associated with determining the patient's snoring. Step S104b determines mask vent flow in relation to patient air leak. Step S104c determines the pressure drop a...

Abstract

Systems and / or methods for treating sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) are provided. In particular, systems and / or methods are provided that include software systems for use with auto-titrating devices (e.g. APAP devices) that reduce and / or eliminate the need to calibrate the auto-titrating devices. The software system also may reduce and / or eliminate the need for certain sensors used in such calibrations. Certain example embodiments compute snore based on noises measured during expiration and inspiration, and certain example embodiments set patient leak utilizing the vent flow level. Certain example embodiments change treatment pressure thresholds after measuring patient improvement by monitoring a variable correlated with actual delivery pressure in accordance with an example embodiment, and certain example embodiments provide pressure according to motor speed in accordance with an example embodiment.

Description

[0001] References to related applications [0001] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 60 / 810,624, filed June 5, 2006, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] Exemplary embodiments disclosed herein relate to systems and / or methods for treating sleep disordered breathing (SDB). More specifically, exemplary embodiments disclosed herein relate to systems and / or methods including a software system for use with an automated titration device to reduce and / or eliminate the need to calibrate the automatic titration device. The software system may also reduce and / or eliminate the need for some sensors used in this calibration. Background technique [0003] Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other dangerous sleep disordered breathing (SDB) conditions affect millions of people worldwide. A number of techniques have been developed for the treatment of SDB, including, for example, the use of continuous positiv...
