In the method, the nodes of the new and the old road networks are matched, the nodes which are successfully matched of the new road network use the codes of the nodes of the old road network, the nodes failed to be matched of the new road network are coded according to the type to which the nodes belong, so that the method for updating the road codes is realized. Moreover, the uniqueness and the continuous usability of the road codes in the digital map in different editions are ensured; and in particular, under a condition that the map editions of the ATMS and the terminal are not synchronously updated, the method can ensure that the terminal uses the majority of the information data which are sent by the ATMS and related to the traffic network without updating the map edition.
