Abstract

The invention relates to a method, a system, a base unit (1000) and a search unit (2000) for locating unknown cellular telephones and guiding the search for such devices. By means of base station functionality in the base unit (1000), mobile stations (3000) in a search area are identified and assigned dedicated communication channels. This is achieved through establishing communication between the base unit (1000) and the mobile stations (3000) in the search area. Search information concerning the mobile stations (3000) in the search area is established in the base unit (1000). The search information is transferred from the base unit (1000) to the search unit (2000). A search based on the search information is initiated with the search unit (2000).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods, systems and devices for supporting the search for wireless devices. More specifically, the present invention relates to methods, systems, base units and search units for locating unknown cell phones and directing searches for such devices. Background technique [0002] The use of emitted radio waves to locate wireless devices is a well known technique. Using some type of directional antenna, it is possible to find the direction of the source and thus the location of the device. Similarly, by measuring the difference in the arrival times of signals at multiple receivers, the distance to the source can be determined, and using simple trigonometry or more advanced parameter estimation algorithms, the position of the source can be estimated, see for example the authors in UK 2005 for Book "Wireless Communications" by A.F. Molisch, Wiley. [0003] For example, positioning systems can be used to find people buried...
