The method comprises the following steps of: acquiring output voltage of each range of drive current photosensitive element and comparing output voltage values corresponding to the adjacent drive currents to acquire the drive current of an inflection point; setting the drive current as a maximum range of current and recording the output voltage value of the photosensitive element in the maximum range of drive current; and comparing multiple relation between the output voltage of the inflection point and the output voltage in the maximum range of drive current, judging whether the inflection point is shifted leftwards or rightwards according to the multiple relation and accordingly regulating the drive current. The method has the advantages of adaptively regulating the drive current of the photosensitive element of the printer, making the printer keep relatively higher paper detection sensitivity and improving the printing efficiency of the printer when the paper detection sensitivity of the printer is reduced because of the change of the service environment of the printer.
