A method and an apparatus for call management in an Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) are provided. The method includes the following steps: establishing an IMS call between a calling terminal and a called terminal (301); sending, by a proxy call session control function entity, a state detection request to its corresponding terminal (302); if the detection result is abnormal, notifying the network elements of the IMS to release the call (303).
