Abstract

The present invention relates to a tire tread wear indicator and a molding device therefore. A tire tread for a vehicle tire is disclosed wherein the tread has at least one tread element projecting from the base of the tread and having a defined tread depth, with at least one tread element having a first hole and having a first outer cross-sectional shape that is constant for a first depth. A molding device for forming a tread wear indicator in a tread is also disclosed. The molding device includes a mold blade, the mold blade having a solid first portion having a defined depth, wherein the solid first portion has a cross-sectional shape that is constant for the defined depth.

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a wear marker for a tire tread and a molding apparatus for forming said wear marker. Background technique [0002] The use of treadwear signs is not new and is required by law in many countries. A variety of such markers are known. One such marking uses a colored device, such as colored rubber or colored fibers, under the tread for a visual indication of wear. Other types of markers use rib-type elements in the tread grooves, as shown in FIG. 9 . Problems can arise if the ribs in the tread grooves prevent drainage. Where required by law, the upper surface of the tread wear marks must be located at a height of 1.6 mm from the bottom of the groove where the wear marks are located. Some countries impose additional requirements applicable to winter tread wear markings located at a height of 4 mm from the bottom of the grooves.
