The invention provides a method for detecting defects at a shaft neck root or unloading slot of a belt conveyor drum shaft, wherein the method comprises the following steps: scanning artificial cracks on a test block by utilizing an ultrasound probe; calculating the defect detection sensitivity by utilizing the primary reflection wave obtained through scanning the artificial cracks on the test block; scanning a shaft neck root or an outer side of an unloading slot by utilizing the ultrasound probe, wherein during the scanning, the probe is pointed to a centre hole, and moved to and fro in a stepping manner at a predetermined speed, simultaneously, the probe rotates within a predetermined angle range; and judging whether the shaft neck root or the unloading slot part has defects or not. Compared with the prior art, the method provided by the invention has the advantages that the defect detection for the shaft neck root or unloading slot part of the whole belt conveyor drum shaft can befinished fast; and once the defects at the shaft neck root or unloading slot part of the conveyor drum shaft are discovered, repairing and processing can be performed in time.
