Problems solved by technology

[0007] This leads to some undesired results
First, it results in a smaller than expected dose near the stenosis and is unknown a priori
Second, it causes the potent drug to be dispersed in healthy areas of the body, causing unwanted side effects

Embodiment approach

[0051] According to one embodiment, the catheter 2 comprises an inflation / deflation tube for the balloon 1 and a separate inflation / deflation tube for the auxiliary balloon 21 , even if two auxiliary balloons are provided. According to another embodiment, the catheter 2 comprises an inflation / deflation tube for the balloon 1 and an inflation / deflation tube for each auxiliary balloon 21 .

[0052] in use Figure 9 and Figure 11 In the description of the process of the catheter, a plurality of auxiliary balloons 21 are mentioned, and it is obvious that only one auxiliary balloon 21 is provided. The procedure for using Balloon 1 includes:

[0053] - inserting the catheter 2 into the site to be treated;

[0054] - changing the auxiliary balloon 21 from a collapsed configuration to a deployed configuration;

[0055] - changing the balloon 1 from a collapsed configuration to a deployed configuration, thereby completing angioplasty and drug deposition on the vessel wall;

Abstract

The present invention relates to a balloon (1) for treating stenosis and the method for obtaining this balloon. The method comprises the steps of : bringing the balloon in the deployed configuration; placing a plurality of stylets (17) that are arranged in the axial direction along the outer wall (10) of the balloon; pushing the stylets towards the balloon core (11) in the radial direction such as to form a plurality of laps (12); laying the laps about the core in the tangential direction such as to lay each lap on an adjacent stylet; removing the stylets such as to form a plurality of cavities (13) comprised between each lap and the balloon core; filling the cavities with the drug.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods for making balloons and catheters. Background technique [0002] Catheters for the angioplasty treatment of strictures in the human circulatory system have been known for a long time. These catheters include a balloon at their distal end. The balloon is inserted into the blood vessel in the deflated configuration and brought close to the site of the stenosis, where it is inflated. Thereby, a mechanical treatment of the stenosis is achieved, which is suitable for restoring the cross-section of the blood vessel. [0003] It has recently been noted that the effect of this purely mechanical angioplasty is significantly enhanced when combined with drugs suitable for the prevention of stenosis. Suitable drugs for this type of treatment are antineoplastic drugs suitable for use as antiproliferative agents. These drugs may be, for example, Rapamycin, Epothilone, and mainly Paclitaxel. [0004] Specifically, attempt...
