Problems solved by technology

[0004] A disadvantage of the elastomeric composition described in EP 1 964 864 is that the organic blowing agent contained therein presents health and environmental risks during storage and handling of the blowing agent and during storage and handling of the composition
Another disadvantage is that the decomposition products from these blowing agents, if produced during the foaming process, also represent a health and / or environmental hazard

example 1

[0092] The compositions of Examples 1 to 7 were prepared using an internal mixer (Shaw K1 Mark IV Intermix) with a capacity of 3 liters having intermeshing rotor blades and having a start temperature of 25°C. The elastomeric polymer was first introduced into the mixer and allowed to comminute for a period of 30 seconds before adding the carbon black, white filler and / or oil. Mixing was allowed to proceed until a temperature of 70°C was reached, at which point the remaining ingredients were added. Mixing was allowed to proceed up to a mixing temperature of 95°C, at which point the batches were transferred to a two-roll mill for cooling and blending to obtain a high level of dispersion of ingredients. Incorporation of CaSO on a two-roll mill (Troester WNU 2) 4 2H 2 O. The compositions were compression molded into 2 mm sheets (10 min, 180°C) and 6 mm sheets (12 min, 180°C) for testing purposes. These test pieces were used to determine the physical properties reported in Table...

example 8

[0101] The compositions of Example 8 and comparative experiments were prepared using an internal mixer (Farrel Bridge 3D Banbury) with a capacity of 70 liters with tangential rotor blades and a start temperature of 25°C. The elastomeric polymer was first introduced into the mixer and allowed to comminute for a period of 30 seconds before adding the carbon black, white filler and oil. Mixing was allowed to proceed until a temperature of 70°C was reached, at which point the remaining ingredients were added. Mixing was allowed to proceed up to a mixing temperature of 95°C, at which point the batches were transferred to a two-roll mill for cooling, and blended to obtain a good level of dispersion of ingredients.

[0102] Mooney value measurements were performed using an Alpha Technologies MV2000E.

Abstract

The invention is related to an elastomer composition comprising an elastomeric polymer comprising ethylene and Alpha-olefin derived units, a curing package and a blowing agent wherein the blowing agent comprises a compound containing water of crystallization. The invention also relates to a process for the manufacture of a foamed article comprising the steps of preparing an elastomeric composition, shaping, foaming and curing the elastomeric composition. The invention further relates to a foamed article, which shows good mechanical properties.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a foamable elastomeric composition comprising: an elastic polymer comprising ethylene and alpha-olefin derived units, a curing package and a blowing agent. [0002] The invention also relates to a method for the manufacture of foamed objects comprising the steps of foaming and curing the elastomeric composition. The invention further relates to a foam article. Background technique [0003] A foamable elastomeric composition comprising a blowing agent is known from EP 1 964 864 . The blowing agents described include organic blowing agents such as azo blowing agents, N-nitroso blowing agents, fluoroalkane blowing agents. [0004] A disadvantage of the elastomeric composition described in EP 1 964 864 is that the organic blowing agent contained therein presents health and environmental risks during storage and handling of the blowing agent and during storage and handling of the composition . Another disadvantage is tha...
