[0013] introduction

[0014] The present invention relates to granules, agglomerates and other compacted bodies comprising components and having a composition modified to meet the specific requirements of a given application. Typically, at least one component is a biomass component. The compacted body of the present invention can be used in various applications depending on its composition and cost. The following discussion will focus on power generation applications. In a particular embodiment, the use of compacted bodies or briquettes as fuel aids or fuel substitutes for coal or other fossil fuels is involved in co-firing power plants. Other specific applications include beautifying pellets and bedding for different animals such as poultry, horses and rabbits. Another application includes granulated absorbents such as cat litter for absorbing liquid and / or solid waste.

Abstract

The present invention relates to pellets, briquettes, and other compacted products contain multiple components and have a composition tailored to meet specific requirements for a given application. Frequently, at least one of the components is a biomass component. The compacted biomass products can be used in various applications including power generation, animal bedding, and waste absorbent. One particular embodiment involves using compacted body or mass as a fuel supplement or fuel replacement for coal or other fossil fuel(s) in co-firing power plants. Other specific applications include bedding for various animals including fowl, horses, and rabbits. Another application comprises pelletized absorbents such as cat litter for absorbing liquid and / or solid waste products.

Description

[0001] References to related applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 181,101, filed May 26, 2009, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 245,506, filed September 24, 2009, the aforementioned U.S. Provisional Patent Application The entire disclosure is incorporated herein by reference. 【Background technique】 [0003] The need for greater scale use of waste, especially waste from renewable energies, such as agricultural crops and other plant or animal matter, is of concern as the population grows substantially and the demand on limited available resources increases . While resource recovery programs and movements using products from renewable energy sources have gained majority support, many challenges remain. These challenges are particularly acute in the energy sector of the world economy. It involves finding compositions that are cheap to manufacture, easy to transport, easy to store, and, of course, e...
