Embodiment Construction

[0023] In the description below, the symbols and quantities used have the following definitions:

[0024]

[0025]

[0026] Note that the term "d-axis current injection" is used here. Alternative terms used in the art are "field weakening" and "phase advancing", which have similar meanings.

[0027] The present invention improves on the prior art by calculating reduced sensitivity, smooth torque, current distribution considering finite or time varying DC link voltages. These solutions are made possible by allowing the sensitivity to angular errors to be increased if desired. This calculation allows for variation of the sensitivity, which allows it to differ from a single fixed value, which allows greater flexibility in generating solutions and trying to meet the driving real operating conditions.

[0028] These improvements allow the generation of current profiles that address the desired properties, in fact providing the desired sensitivity to the required torque give...

Abstract

In an electrical machine which has time-varying or position-varying disturbances in its output, signals representing the position and values of machine-related parameters are used to solve a model of the machine to calculate the phase currents which are required to minimise the disturbances. The model is able to provide solutions in the presence of limitations of some of the operating conditions of the machine, for example the supply voltage or the error in the signal representing the position.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to the control of electric machines. More specifically, the invention relates to deriving a current profile for controlling the currents in the phase windings of an electric machine in order to reduce ripple in the output torque of the electric machine. Background technique [0002] Electric machines are generally capable of operating in a motor mode or a generator mode, in which the motor converts an input of electrical energy into a motor output, such as force or torque, and in a generator mode, in which the motor converts an input of mechanical energy into an electrical output, such as current . In both cases, the output may have a time-varying component, which may be due to deficiencies in the input to the motor, the physical design of the motor, or the construction of the motor (such as mechanical or magnetic asymmetry). For example, a brushless direct current (DC) motor operating as a motor may have a rip...
