The network capacity expansion method comprises the following steps: (1) the service data information of each cell is acquired, wherein the service data information of each cell comprises the number of the activated users of services developed in each cell, the rates of the services and the KPI (Key Performance Indicator) information of the services; (2) the numbers of the activated users of the services of all cells and the rates of the services are counted to acquire the average rates of the single users of all service sets, wherein the service of the same type developed in all cells belongs to a service set of a capacity-to-be-expanded network; (3) the numbers of the activated users of the services developed in all cells and the KPI information of the services are counted to acquire the average KPI information of the single users of all the service sets; (4) according to the average rates and the average KPI information of the single users of all the service sets, the target rates of all the service sets are acquired; (5) according to the target rates of all the service sets and the service composition information of target cells, the capacity expansion indexes of the target cells are acquired; (6) according to the capacity expansion indexes of the target cells, the capacities of the target cells are expanded. The network capacity expansion method and equipment can improve capacity expansion effect of the network.
