If such spacing-dependent disturbances are ignored, this also leads to the fact that defects which actually have an influence on the strength may not be detected or a non-defective product may be mistakenly identified as defective.

Embodiment Construction

[0029] The only diagram shows the dependence of the intensity of the emission induced by electroluminescence on the distance between the actuator and the electroluminescent security feature. In order to determine the relationship, in the example shown, at least 10 measurements are made on an invariant sample. The alignment of the system takes place in the selected example over a nominal distance of 1.5 mm (corresponding to 100%). Measured at 1.0mm, 1.25mm, 1.5mm, 1.75mm and 2.0mm pitches. This roughly corresponds to the usual pitch fluctuations, as occurs in the application described above (processing of special paper produced in a paper mill for banknote printing).

[0030]Considerable intensity fluctuations can be picked up from the a-curves plotted in the figure. In the case of a pitch of 1.0 mm, the intensity value is approximately 225%. With a pitch of 2.0mm, it still measures exactly 40%. Due to the strong fluctuations, problems arise when checking the security featu...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for examining a security feature in security documents or materials, which security feature turns electroluminescent in an excited state. For this purpose, the electroluminescence of the security feature is initially excited by means of a stimulator. Subsequently, the distance between stimulator and electroluminescent security feature, and the intensity of the emission generated by the electroluminescence are measured. Lastly, the measured intensity is adjusted on the basis of the measured distance in order to generate an intensity value that is scaled to a predetermined basic distance and is distance-adjusted. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out said method.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method and a device for verifying security features in a security document, wherein the security feature comprises at least one electroluminescent security feature. Background technique [0002] Security documents such as banknotes, personal documents, credit cards etc. are usually provided with specific security features in order to make the counterfeiting of these documents difficult. In order to counter the growing technical capabilities of would-be counterfeiters, security features have been developed with increasing sophistication in recent years. For example, it is known to incorporate fluorescent pigments into structural features of banknote printing. Furthermore, special luminescent substances are used, for example with electroluminescence. Such security features can only be forged with difficulty with respect to their chemical composition. Furthermore, it cannot be easily determined exactly what is analyzed and ho...
