AI Technical Summary

Problems solved by technology

As the cells become closer to each other, the interference of adjacent cells becomes more and more severe, and the cell splitting gain saturates
Also, getting new sites to install base stations for operators is getting harder and more expensive these days
Therefore, cell splitting cannot meet bandwidth requirements

Embodiment Construction

[0021] The techniques disclosed in this document, in one aspect, improve the operation of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) by facilitating control of the power of signal transmissions from UEs by means of transmissions to user equipment (UE) signals that allow UEs to estimate Geometric characteristics of the deployment (e.g. how close the low power nodes are to the UE compared to the macro cell base station).

[0022] Recently, a new type of network deployment, the so-called HetNet (Heterogeneous Network) was proposed and attracted a lot of attention and effort in the industry. In HetNet, another layer consisting of multiple low-power nodes or micro base stations is added on top of the existing macro base station coverage area. In some configurations, the macro base station works as a master, while the low-power nodes work as slaves (e.g., following a transmission schedule controlled by the master), in order to have better interference management and resource allocation, etc. ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for using geometric indexes in HetNet deployment. In heterogeneous network deployment comprising macro base stations and low power nodes, the geometric indexes are transmitted by low power nodes in order to calculate path loss difference values through the estimation of synchronization signals received by macro base stations and the power of geometric index signals received by low power nodes in a user equipment portion. User equipment uses the estimated path loss difference values to adjust power levels transmitted by initial preamble preamble signals to the macro base stations.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This patent application claims the benefit of International Patent Application No. PCT / CN2012 / 080802 filed on August 30, 2012. The entire contents of the aforementioned patent applications are incorporated by reference as part of the present disclosure in this application. Background technique [0003] This document deals with cellular telecommunication systems, in particular heterogeneous networks, where one or more low power nodes are deployed in the coverage area of a macro base station. [0004] Cellular communication systems will be deployed around the world to provide not only voice services, but also mobile broadband data and multimedia services. As new mobile applications are constantly being released which consume higher and higher amounts of data, eg for video and graphics, there is a growing need for higher bandwidth. As mobile system operators deploy these bandwidth-intensive applications and increase the...
