Abstract

A hybrid vehicle powertrain includes a hybrid transmission in power flow communication with a traction motor, a fluid pump, and a flow controller electrically connected to the fluid pump. The fluid pump is configured to supply fluid to the hybrid transmission and the traction motor at an adjustable fluid flow rate in response to commands from the flow controller. A flow controller is electrically connected to the fluid pump and configured to controllably adjust the operating speed of the fluid pump to adjust fluid flow. If the difference between the desired rate of change of speed of the fluid pump and the actual rate of change of speed of the fluid pump exceeds a threshold, the flow controller may limit the total amount of electrical power supplied to the traction motor.
