Abstract

The digital control unit 300 generates a control signal D to control the duty cycle of the switch mode power supply 100 in order to achieve a faster response to input voltage transients. The digital control unit includes a feedback compensator 3014 , a feedforward compensator 3013 , a transient detector 3012 and a controller 3011 . The transient detector receives a signal indicative of an input voltage of the switched mode power supply and detects transients in the received signal. The feedback compensator receives a signal indicative of the output voltage of the switch mode power supply and adjusts the control signal D. The feedforward compensator receives a signal indicative of the input voltage of the switched mode power supply, performs a relatively fast but coarse adjustment of the control signal, and then performs a more precise but relatively slow adjustment of the control signal.
