Embodiment Construction

[0037] The present invention relates to a method of forming a Media Insert and a Media Insert for an ophthalmic lens. Additionally, Media Inserts may be incorporated into ophthalmic lenses.

[0038] The energized lens 100 may be formed with an embedded Media Insert and an energy source, such as an electrochemical cell or battery, as an energy storage device, and optionally encapsulating and isolating said materials including the energy source from the environment in which the ophthalmic lens is placed .

[0039] In some illustrative examples, the Media Insert also includes circuit patterns, components, and energy sources. A Media Insert that locates circuit patterns, components, and energy sources may be included around the perimeter of the Optic Zone through which the wearer of the lens may view; and alternatively, include a Circuitry patterns, components and energy sources that adversely affect, and thus the Media Insert can position said circuit patterns, components and e...

Abstract

A method for forming a stacked integrated component layer insert and a stacked integrated component layer insert is described. The component layer insert comprises substrate layers with functionality. The substrate layers are assembled to form electrical interconnections between the substrate layers creating a stacked feature. The stacked feature is encapsulated with a material for bonding within the body of a molded ophthalmic lens.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a method of forming a stacked integrated component media insert for an ophthalmic lens and a stacked integrated component media insert for an ophthalmic lens. Background technique [0002] Traditionally, ophthalmic devices such as contact lenses, intraocular lenses or punctal plugs have included biocompatible devices with corrective, cosmetic or therapeutic properties. For example, a contact lens may provide one or more of: vision correcting functionality; cosmetic enhancement; and therapeutic effect. Each function is provided by the physical properties of the lens. Designs that incorporate refractive properties into lenses provide vision correction. Pigments incorporated into lenses can provide cosmetic enhancement. Active agents incorporated into lenses can provide therapeutic functionality. These physical properties are achieved without bringing the lens into an energized state. [0003] More recently, it has been theorized that a...
