Embodiment Construction

[0047] Glucose Meter (BGM) 100 in figure 1 shown in . BGM 100 is shown in perspective view. BGM 100 has a generally flat base, which is not shown in the figures. The BGM100 is about as tall as it is long, and about one-third as wide as it is tall.

[0048] First, second and third input parts 101, 102, 103 are provided on one side surface of the BGM. These may for example be in the form of push switches or touch sensitive transducers. Also provided on this side of the BGM near the input devices 101 to 103 is a display 104 . This may have any suitable form, such as a liquid crystal display (LCD), electronic ink (e-ink), etc. In use, the user can control the BGM 100 using the input devices 101 to 103 and can be provided with information by the BGM through the display 104 .

[0049] Positioned on the front face of the BGM 100 is an aperture 105 . The hole 105 is positioned at about half the height of the BGM. Aperture 105 is configured to receive a portion of a user's body...

Abstract

The present application relates to an apparatus for eliciting a blood sample. The apparatus has a housing (203) having an aperture (105). A shaft (204) extends in the housing. A first part (705) of a testing member (700) is mounted on the shaft and a second part (704) of a testing member is configured to co-rotate with the first part. A lancet (701) protrudes radially from the second part. The testing member is configured such that the second part translates, in the presence of a force exerted against the testing member by an actuator (500), relative to the first part from a retracted position to a skin penetrating position in which the lancet is displaced towards the aperture.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device for drawing a blood sample. Background technique [0002] Diabetics may be provided with a certain amount of insulin, for example by injection, sometimes several times a day. The proper amount of insulin depends on a person's blood sugar levels, so blood sugar level measurements can also occur multiple times a day. [0003] Blood glucose level measurement is typically a multi-process process. The first is incision, wherein a lancet or needle is used to pierce the user's skin, for example at the end or side of a finger. Once the appropriate amount of blood has been produced, a sample is drawn on the test strip. A person may need to squeeze their finger in order to cause a sufficient amount of blood to be expelled. Sometimes staging needs to be repeated. The test strip is then supplied to a meter, usually an electronic meter, which analyzes the sample, e.g. by determining a parameter (e.g. electrochemical po...
