[0019] A smart card web server generally refers to a web server running on a smart card coupled to a device. A smart card web server can be used to provide content defined by the network operator who can own the smart card to an end user using the device's web browser and standard web technologies such as interfaces. A smart card web server may be configured to use a BIP (Bearer Independent Protocol) protocol such as that described in ETSI 102223, while a browser may use a packet based protocol stack such as a TCP / IP stack. A module, which may be referred to as a BIP gateway, may be provided to convert the BIP protocol to TCP / IP (and vice versa), allowing data communication between the smart card and the client.

[0020] Resources on smart cards may be scarce. Some cards can be configured to open a single BIP channel. On the other hand, TCP sockets are usually available, and commercial browsers open many sockets at the same time to download resources (eg, web pages, images, ...

Abstract

This application solves the problem of not needing to keep the transport channel open between the sockets on the server and client. To solve this problem, a method involving a bearer independent protocol gateway (120) is described. In one aspect, a bearer-independent protocol gateway is provided in a device (100), said bearer-independent protocol gateway comprising a traffic analyzer configured to: detect when an HTTP transaction in the form of a request and a corresponding response complete, and switch to the next socket as soon as said transaction completes, without waiting for the TCP socket to be closed. For example, when the gateway (120) detects that the response is complete, it can push the current socket back into the socket queue and start servicing the next socket.

Description

technical field [0001] In general, the present application relates to communication devices, and more particularly, to systems, methods and devices for performance optimization of bearer independent protocol gateways. Background technique [0002] A Bearer Independent Protocol (BIP) has been developed that allows data and services to be provided from smart cards. A smart card may generally refer to a medium including data storage, which may be coupled with a communication device. Examples of smart cards include Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards, Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) cards, Universal Integrated Circuit (UICC) cards, Removable Subscriber Identity Modules (R-UIM), CDMA Subscriber Identity Modules (CSIM), and the like. [0003] One way in which data and services can be provided is through the use of a smart card web (web) server. A smart card may include data that causes a processor of a device coupled to the smart card to instantiate and configure ...
