Embodiments of the present invention improve efficiency by utilizing intra-frame retransmission of erroneous portions of a transmission frame, such as, for example, erroneous symbols. A feedback channel is used by the sender to transmit an acknowledgment (ACK) of one or more portions of the transmitted frame. The receiver monitors the feedback channel and retransmits any negatively acknowledged portions within the same frame rather than within a new retransmission frame. Retransmitting the erroneous portion within the same frame that was originally transmitted improves efficiency. Because the erroneous part is retransmitted within the same frame, there is no need for the transmitter to re-contention the medium, and there is no need for the transmitter to retransmit the complete preamble and header.
