Abstract

The invention provides a distance measuring device and method for multiple subjects. The pupil orientation sensor (16) pupil-divides the light beams passing through the lens parts (12a, 12b) respectively, and acquires images (A, B) at the same time. A focus detection unit (60) performs focus control based on image signals representing the images (A, B), and detects lens positions of the lens units (12a, 12b) during the focus control.
