The detection method comprises the following steps: obtaining the maximum observation distance according to the transparency of a water body; calculating the minimum size of the optical axle distance; placing and illuminating the device; acquiring the image. According to the detection device and the detection method disclosed by the invention, the illumination of the 3m*4m wide-range non-uniform light field can be realized at the distance of 15m in the space; the defects that a single bundled light source is narrow in observation range and has a blind zone at a short range are overcome; the working distance extends to the length of 1.9 times of the visibility while the observation range of field depth is widened.
