Embodiment Construction

[0154] overview

[0155] In some of its embodiments, the present invention relates to energy conversion systems and, more particularly but not exclusively, to conversion systems for upconverting energy from longer wavelengths to shorter wavelengths.

[0156] Some embodiments of the broad aspects of the invention relate to energy conversion, where energy is coupled from one (or more) longer wavelengths to shorter wavelengths using solid-state energy coupling in materials. Optionally, the above material has a low emissivity window between one wavelength and a shorter wavelength to reduce energy loss in this window. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the aforementioned material is shaped into a body that uses its surface features (eg, polaritons) to facilitate the energy transfer. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, surface modes rather than bulk modes are used to transfer energy.

[0157] In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, energy at said one wavele...

Abstract

A method of emitting photons at a desired wavelength comprising: providing a material having a first region of high radiation absorption at a first set of radiation wavelengths, the first region having low radiation absorption at a shorter set of wavelengths Adjacent to a second region of a second region, and a third region of high emission at a shorter set of wavelengths; energy is applied to said material at the first region such that at a certain temperature of said material most of the effective black body radiation of said material will be falling within the second region and configured to transfer energy to the third region without overlapping the first region; and emitting energy from material in the third region energized by the applying energy.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application 61 / 811,741, filed April 14, 2013, and US Provisional Patent Application 61 / 677,070, filed July 30, 2012. The contents of all of the above applications are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention, in some embodiments thereof, relates to energy conversion systems, and more particularly, but not exclusively, to conversion systems for upconverting energy from longer wavelengths to shorter wavelengths. Background technique [0004] When heated, typical materials emit energy at wavelengths that are distributed in a manner that depends on their emissivity. When heated, an ideal material would emit radiation at wavelengths corresponding to those of a black body. This is called black body radiation. [0005] Typical energy conversion systems convert energy from short wavelengths to long wavelengths by photostimulation in eg fluorescence...
