Abstract

A system and method for controlling a valve is disclosed. Systems and methods for control valves increase the availability of control valve assemblies for controlling processes. A pair of positioners are arranged in a high availability configuration and are respectively coupled to the controller. The first locator includes an output coupled to the switch and the second locator includes an output coupled to the switch. The operating state of the first positioner is monitored and, depending on the operating state of the first positioner, the output of the first or second positioner is allowed to be transmitted to the switch.
