Problems solved by technology

Such echoes may disturb the user of the call, and the perceived quality of the call may be reduced due to the echoes
In particular, echoes can cause interference with near-end audio signals that are expected to be received by the microphone and transmitted to the far end in the call

Embodiment Construction

[0011] In order for echo suppression to be effectively implemented, the echo suppressor needs to have an accurate estimate of the power of the echo in the received audio signal. As described herein, the echo power can be estimated using a power response based on an FIR filter tuned to approximate a loudspeaker outputting an audio signal and receiving the echo resulting from the output audio signal. The impulse response of the echo path between the microphones of the audio signal.

[0012] The FIR filter may only be used to estimate the echo power (by determining the power response of the FIR filter and then using the power response to estimate the echo power), and not to estimate the actual echo signal. This may be advantageous because the requirements for accuracy in the FIR filter are much smaller when used for estimating the echo power than if the FIR filter is used for estimating the actual echo signal. So by estimating the echo power (instead of the echo signal) from the...

Abstract

Methods, user equipment and computer program products are provided for suppressing echoes. Audio signals are output from speakers. The microphone receives audio signals, wherein the received audio signals include echoes resulting from the output audio signals. The finite impulse response filter estimate is dynamically adjusted in the time domain based on the output audio signal and the received audio signal to simulate the echo path of the echo in the received audio signal. At least one power response is determined from the filter estimate and used to estimate the echo power of the echoes in the received audio signal. The estimated echo power is used to apply echo suppression to the received audio signal, thereby suppressing echoes in the received audio signal.

Description

Background technique [0001] The device may have an audio input device operable to receive audio signals from the surrounding environment. The device may also have audio output means that may be used to output audio signals to the surrounding environment. For example, a device may have one or more speakers for outputting audio signals and one or more microphones for receiving audio signals. The audio signal output from the device's speaker(s) may be received as an "echo" in the audio signal received by the microphone(s). It may be the case that this echo is not desired in the received audio signal. For example, a device may be a user device (eg, mobile phone, tablet, laptop, PC, etc.) used in a communication event (eg, audio or video call) with another user device over a network. The far-end signal of the call may be output from a speaker at the user device and may be received as an echo in an audio signal received by a microphone at the device. Such echoes may disturb the ...
