The present invention discloses a positioning system and method relating to positioning technique. The positioning system includes a transmitting end and a receiving end. The transmitting end includes a controller and N signal transmitters, wherein, N is a natural number larger than or equal to six. N signal transmitters are divided into two groups, each group includes at least three signal transmitters. The controller controls the two groups of signal transmitters to transmit pulse signals to the receiving end according to a pre-set time sequence. The receiving end includes a signal receiver and a signal processor. The signal receiver outputs received pulse signals to the signal processor. The signal processor acquires position information of the receiving end according to the received pulse signals. In comparison with the prior art, the controller of the transmitting end is used to control the two groups of signal transmitters to transmit the pulse signals to the receiving end according to the pre-set time sequence, the receiving end processes the received pulse signals, and then position information of the receiving end is acquired. Therefore, the receiving end is positioned according to the change of the pulse signals so that the receiving end positioning is more precise.
