The invention provides a fast and free passing method for an ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) lane, the method being applied to an ETC system. The ETC system is at least provided with a vehicle detector, a grating detector, a lane barrier machine, a memory and a processor. The method comprises the following steps: detecting the state of vehicles entering an ETC lane through the vehicle detector; detecting the heights of the vehicles that enter the lane through the grating detector and storing the height in the memory; and calling a program instruction prestored in the memory by means of the processor to determine the models of the vehicles, that is to say, determining the types of the vehicles that enter the lane according to preset height judging values of different models of the vehicles in the memory as well as a detection result of the grating detector, and on the basis of a result that shows the types of the vehicles, carrying out the following steps: 1) if the vehicles that enter the lane are miniature vehicles, controlling motions of the lane barrier machine to allow the vehicles to pass; and 2) if the vehicles that enter the lane are not miniature vehicles, controlling the lane barrier machine to keep intercepting the vehicles.
