Abstract

The present invention provides a method for automatically detecting an operating system type of a hard disk. The method is applicable to a server or computer that is provided with a plurality of hard disks. The method comprises the following steps: a. detecting whether a format of a current hard disk in a system is a Legacy format, performing step b if yes, and performing step e if no; b. acquiring the partition type of a master boot record of the hard disk; c. identifying an operating system type of the hard disk according to the acquired partition type of the hard disk; d. according to the identified operating system type of the hard disk, generating a character string that represents the operating system of the hard disk and displaying the character string in a BIOS setting menu; e. determining whether the format of the hard disk is EFI, performing step f if yes, and ending if no; f. detecting a file path of the hard disk and obtaining a name of the file path of the hard disk; and g. according to the detected name of the file path of the hard disk, acquiring the character string that represents the operating system of the hard disk and displaying the character string in the BIOS setting menu.
