Abstract

The invention provides a method and equipment for establishing a GRE channel. The method comprises the steps of transmitting a GRE channel establishing request message by HG to an HAAP, wherein the GRE channel establishing request message comprises a first IP address which is the IP address of WAN of the HG; receiving a GRE channel establishing request response message by the HG, wherein the GRE channel establishing request response message is transmitted by the HAAP, the GRE channel establishing request response message comprises a second IP address which is the source IP address of the GRE channel establishing request message that is received by the HAAP; and establishing the GRE channel between the HG and the HAAP by the HG according to the GRE channel establishing request message, and determining whether network address translation (NAT) is performed in the establishing process of the GRE channel between the HG and the HAAP according to the first IP address and the second IP address. Therefore the method of the invention reduces unnecessary network overhead caused by compulsory adding of UDP message head in a subsequently transmitted data message through NAT in a GRE channel establishing process.
