An X-ray imaging device (1) and a method for operating such a device are presented. At least one of said second grating (15) and said third grating (17) comprises a plurality of sub-gratings (37), wherein each of said sub-gratings comprises a manipulation tool (39), said manipulation means for displacing the sub-grating with respect to the other of the second and third gratings. The control device (21) is adapted to control the handling means (39).
