Problems solved by technology

Locating the receive coils in the center of the vehicle also keeps operators and passers-by away from the electromagnetic fields generated by these large inductive charging coils, which further reduces the options for conveniently packing the transmit coils on the underside of the vehicle

Abstract

A charge plate receiver assembly for an electric vehicle includes an inductive charge plate receiver and a swing arm pivotally secured to a mounting surface. The charge plate receiver is pivotally secured to the swing arm such that the charge plate receiver travels along an arc defined by a length of the swing arm when the assembly moves between a retracted position and a deployed position. When retracted, the charge plate receiver may retract into a cavity, defined by under-body components. The charge plate receiver has a planar surface and the planar surface is generally perpendicular to a horizontal plane of the vehicle in the retracted position and parallel with the horizontal plane of the vehicle in the deployed position.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to vehicle inductive charging systems for traction batteries, and more particularly to vehicle inductive charging plate assemblies and structures. Background technique [0002] Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), collectively referred to as EVs or xEVs, can use electric motors as their primary or sole source of power. A BEV or PHEV typically requires an external power source in order to charge the on-board battery pack (powering the motor). [0003] The increasing popularity and sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) have resulted in advances in vehicle and charging system technology. The use of a charging cable to plug the vehicle into the grid may be considered inconvenient by potential BEV and PHEV owners. One way to allow vehicles to be charged without physically plugging them into the grid is through the use of wireless inducti...
