Abstract

A ladder 1 comprising at least one tread portion 30 and a raising mechanism 50 by which the tread portion can be raised to a deployed position in which it is presented to be stepped on by a person. The ladder also includes a tread 61 . The raising mechanism includes a stopper 51e and a striking portion 54b. The strike portion is arranged to move into abutment with the stop when the tread portion is raised to its deployed position. The impact portion is also arranged to be driven against the stop by at least part of the person's weight. The pedal is depressible to move the impact portion away from the stop. The raising mechanism is configured such that, when the striker portion is so moved away, depressing the tread portion moves the striker portion further away from the stop.
