Abstract

The invention discloses a method and system for determining total organic carbon content. The method comprises the steps that a total gamma intensity curve, a uranium-removing gamma intensity curve, a thorium content curve and a uranium content curve are obtained; the total gamma intensity curve and the uranium-removing gamma intensity curve are overlapped and a rich organic matter well section is recognized; for each down-hole sampling point of the rich organic matter well section, separation degrees of the overlapped total gamma intensity curve and the uranium-removing gamma intensity curve at the down-hole sampling point are calculated; the ratio of thorium and uranium of the thorium content curve and the uranium content curve at the down-hole sampling point is calculated; and according to the separation degree and the ratios of thorium and uranium, the total organic carbon content of each down-hole sampling point in the rich organic matter well section is determined. The method and the system for determining the total organic carbon content is high in practicality and universality, enriches the organic matter evaluating method for abnormal shale reservoir stratums, and provides an efficient technical means for the organic carbon content quantitative evaluation of rich organic matter rocks not suitable for a traditional organic matter evaluating method in complex geological conditions.
