Embodiment Construction

[0021] figure 1 An exemplary wide FOV lens system 110 implemented in an exemplary camera module 100 is shown. The camera module 100 is, for example, a camera body for implementation in a portable device such as a mobile phone or in other devices subject to strict space constraints. However, the camera module 100 may be other types of camera devices without departing from the scope herein. For example, the camera module 100 may be a surveillance camera or a car camera. In camera module 100 , wide FOV lens system 110 is coupled with image sensor 150 . Wide FOV lens system 110 has a wide FOV characterized by FOV angle 180 . In one embodiment, the FOV angle 180 is at least 145 degrees, such as 150 degrees.

[0022] Wide FOV lens system 110 includes three lens surfaces 123, 133, and 135 that cooperate to enable wide FOV imaging. Herein, "lens surface" refers to a curved surface. In one embodiment, wide FOV lens system 110 includes only these three lens surfaces, where lens su...

Abstract

A three-surface wafer-level lens system for imaging a wide-field-of-view scene onto an image plane includes: (a) a first wafer-level lens having (i) a first substrate having a first planar surface facing the image plane , and (ii) a first lens element bonded to a first planar surface and having a first lens surface facing the image plane, and (b) a second wafer-level lens having (i) a first lens element having a first lens surface facing away from the image plane A second substrate with two planar surfaces, (ii) a third substrate bonded to the second substrate and having a third planar surface facing the image plane, (iii) bonded to the second planar surface and having a second lens facing away from the image plane surface, and (iv) a third lens element bonded to the third planar surface and having a third lens surface facing the image plane.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of optics, in particular to a three-surface wide-field lens system. Background technique [0002] Wide field of view (FOV) cameras are used in a variety of applications including surveillance and traffic monitoring. In surveillance, a wide FOV makes it possible to monitor large areas with a single camera. In traffic monitoring, a vehicle may be equipped with one or more cameras that image the surroundings of the vehicle to, for example, prevent collisions. Most conventional wide FOV lens systems include a large number of machined or cast lenses and a large number of associated lens surfaces, eg, 6 lenses with 11 lens surfaces / interfaces. This allows the incorporation of many different materials with various indices of refraction into a single lens system to properly propagate wide angle light rays through the lens system. Typically, the lens(s) closest to the scene have a very large diameter to collect and direct t...
