[0021] The detailed description that follows relates to concepts and processes for providing enhanced recognition of graph data. In general, the techniques disclosed herein account for various aspects of images of graph data, which may include any graphical arrangement indicating one or more values, to generate editable data structures including data tables and / or graphs. An image containing a diagram showing graphical elements may be received or captured by a computing device. For example, a graphical element could be a bar of a bar chart, or a component of a pie chart.

[0022] The techniques described in this article can determine the value of a graphical element. In one aspect, a value can be determined by a metric of a graphical element. For example, a value may be determined by measuring the length of a bar of a bar chart or by measuring any other characteristic such as the corners of a pie chart or the surface area of a component of a pie chart. In another aspect, ...

Abstract

An image including a chart displaying graphical elements may be received or captured by a computing device. The graphical elements, for example, may be bars of a bar chart, or components of a pie chart. Techniques described herein may determine values for the graphical elements. Techniques described herein may also analyze the arrangement of the graphical elements and other contextual information to determine a chart type. The generated values may be arranged into an editable chart and/or an editable data structure based on the chart type. Touch-enabled gestures may be applied to the data structure to allow a user to modify, save or otherwise process the data structure.

Description

Background technique [0001] As technology has further developed the capabilities and ubiquity of digital imaging components, computers and portable devices have become more commonly used to capture and process images of printed documents. There are a variety of applications that process images of printed documents using different techniques, including optical character recognition ("OCR"). For example, some applications use these techniques to convert printed documents into text files. [0002] While computers can generate files containing OCR-generated text, current technology still has limitations. For example, when an image contains text and other contextual markers arranged in a complex format, manual interpretation and manual data entry may be required to ensure that the information conveyed in the image is entered correctly. Such a time-consuming, error-prone process can be inefficient and result in a less than satisfactory user experience. [0003] It is with respect...
