Embodiment Construction

[0016] The following description and drawings illustrate specific embodiments sufficiently to enable those skilled in the art to practice them. Other embodiments may incorporate structural, logical, electrical, process, and other changes. Parts and features of some embodiments may be included in or substituted for those of other embodiments. Embodiments recited in the claims include all available equivalents of those claims.

[0017] figure 1 A Basic Service Set (BSS) according to some embodiments is shown. BSS 100 includes an access point (AP) 102 and a plurality of associated communication stations (STAs) 104 . According to an embodiment, the access point 102 is configured to transmit data frames to the stations 104 that are part of a station management group using MU-MIMO technology. As described in more detail below, access point 102 may establish, maintain, and delete one or more station management groups within BSS 100 , such as station management group 105 and stati...

Abstract

Embodiments of configuring access points for station group management and methods for managing station management groups in a wireless network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the access point may transmit a group assignment message to the selected stations and establish a station management group to include the stations from which the response frame was received. The access point may also deliver DL MU-MIMO transmissions to stations of the station management group using MU-MIMO technology. When explicit group deletion is employed, the access point can explicitly delete some stations from the station management group by transmitting a group deletion message to the stations of the group. When implicit group deletion is employed, the access point can implicitly delete some from the station management group after a predetermined period of time indicated in the group assignment message by refraining from transmitting DL MU‑MIMO transmissions or group update messages to the stations of the group. stand.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments relate to wireless communications including Wireless-Fidelity (WiFi) communications. Some embodiments relate to multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) communications. Some embodiments relate to MU-MIMO systems using Downlink Spatial Division Multiple Access (DL-SDMA) techniques. Some embodiments relate to MU-MIMO systems operating according to one of the IEEE 802.11 standards, such as the 802.11ac standard. Background technique [0002] A MU-MIMO system uses multiple spatial channels to transmit signals to and receive signals from multiple stations simultaneously using two or more antennas. In a MU-MIMO system, signals for different stations are precoded for transmission on different spatial channels, allowing the stations to distinguish data intended for a particular station. One problem with MU-MIMO systems is managing and maintaining groups of stations. [0003] There is therefore a general need for configuring access po...
