Embodiment Construction

[0098] Reference will now be made in detail to various embodiments of the present disclosure, one or more examples of which are set forth below. Each example is provided by way of explanation, not limitation, of the disclosure. In fact, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made in the present disclosure without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention. For example, features illustrated or described as part of one embodiment can be used on another embodiment to yield a still further embodiment. Accordingly, it is intended that the present invention cover such modifications and variations.

[0099] In one embodiment, the present disclosure relates to systems and methods for transdermally (i.e., non-invasively through intact skin) monitoring of a condition (e.g., urinary disorders, intestinal disorders, and sexual dysfunction) in a subject, wherein, Improvement in the condition can be determined by comparing...

Abstract

Various systems and methods for non-invasively monitoring and treating conditions of interest through transcutaneous stimulation of target nerves are described. For example, a subject can be monitored for improvement of a condition, wherein such improvement corresponds to a decrease in the threshold level that elicits a sensory or motor response in the subject upon stimulation as compared to a baseline level. In addition, transcutaneous stimulation of nerves can also treat the condition. Monitoring and treatment can be performed non-invasively with substantially no pain response via electrical nerve stimulation of target nerves, where stimulation is delivered from electrodes placed on non-smooth skin surfaces. The electrodes are placed such that the target nerve is immobilized sufficiently that stimulation is effective and can be delivered in a controlled manner.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 073,412, filed October 31, 2014, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] Conditions such as bladder disease, bowel disease, and sexual dysfunction affect the quality of life for millions of people in the United States and around the world. Referring to bladder disorders in particular, overactive bladder is a condition in which involuntary contractions of the bladder occur during filling despite one's attempts to suppress it. It can cause symptoms such as frequent urination and nocturia. Urge incontinence, which is involuntary urinary incontinence caused by contraction of the bladder muscles and often associated with a sense of urgency, can also occur, as is stress incontinence. Stress incontinence is different from urge incontinence, which occurs when physical movement or activity (coughing, sneezing,...
