The damper 10 in this example includes a shock absorber 12 having a tubular body, an upper spring seat 14 , a coil spring 16 and a lower spring seat 18 . The mounting flange 20 enables the damper 10 to be fastened with its lower end to a wheel part of the vehicle, usually a steering knuckle. A telescoping piston rod (not shown) of shock absorber 12 is typically coupled to the body of the vehicle. The lower spring seat 18 is fixedly fastened to the outer surface of the shell 12a of the tubular shock absorber 12 .
