The invention discloses a data reading and writing method and a server. The method particularly includes the steps: receiving a data processing request transmitted by an operating business server by a proxy server; determining a memory database instance for processing the data processing request based on instance distribution information of a memory database cluster corresponding to a business, and processing the data processing request by the aid of the determined memory database instance. The instance distribution information indicates distribution of the memory database instance in the memory database cluster in the original operating environments and target operating environments, the business cannot be affected by migration of any memory database cluster corresponding to the business in different operating environments, migration of businesses in different operating environments can access the memory database cluster without adjusting the business, and migration cost is reduced.
