Embodiment 1

[0117] 9.6 g of 3,4-dimethylpyrazole (0.1 mol) and 9.8 g of maleic anhydride (0.1 mol) were heated to 100°C in 50 ml of 50% acetic acid. After 16 hours, the reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness. When the residue was dissolved in diethyl ether, the product (2-(N-3,4-dimethylpyrazole)succinic acid) precipitated in pure form and was isolated by filtration: white crystals, 92% yield. There are many prominent methyl groups in the NMR spectrum, consistent with elimination of the 3,5-tautomerism by nitrogen displacement.

Embodiment 2

[0118] Example 2: Preparation of 200 kg scale

[0119] The starting materials for the experiments were maleic anhydride from CVM with a purity greater than 99.5% and 3,4-dimethylpyrazole (3,4-DMP) from BASF SE in 80% aqueous solution. According to the NMR spectrum, the 3,4-DMP solution used contained about 2% of other uncharacterized impurities.

[0120] Experiments were first performed in 20L reaction vessels, which were replaced by 25L reaction vessels in further experiments.

[0121] In a first experiment, 41.608 moles of maleic anhydride were introduced and dissolved in 11 liters of distilled water. During this process, the temperature rose by 10 °C. Then 41.608 moles of an 80% solution of 3,4-dimethylpyrazole were added, and the temperature rose a further 12°C. When the addition was complete, the reaction mixture was heated to an internal temperature of 100°C. When this temperature was reached, the reaction mixture was stirred at 100°C for 24 hours and then cooled. A...

Abstract

The invention relates to a synergistic mixture of urease inhibitors and nitrification inhibitors for treating fertilisers containing urea, particularly having an improved urease-inhibiting effect, tothe use of same, and to fertilisers which contain urea as well as said mixture.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to synergistic mixtures of urease inhibitors and nitrification inhibitors for the treatment of urea-containing fertilizers, in particular having an improved urease-inhibiting effect, to their use, and to urea-containing fertilizers containing such mixtures. Background technique [0002] Worldwide, a major and further increasing amount of nitrogen for fertilization is used in the form of urea or urea-containing fertilizers. However, urea itself is an unabsorbed or barely absorbed form of nitrogen because it is rapidly hydrolyzed to ammonia and carbon dioxide by urease, which is ubiquitous in soil. During this process, in some cases, gaseous ammonia is emitted into the atmosphere and is then not available to plants in the soil, reducing the efficiency of fertilization. [0003] It is known to increase nitrogen utilization when using urea-containing fertilizers by spreading the urea-containing fertilizers together with subst...
