Abstract

A system includes a local user system (104) for interacting with an implantable medical device, and a local input device (108) communicatively coupled (110) to the local user system to generate local events. The local user system is used to receive and process local events from the local input device and to receive and process remote events from a remote user system (112) communicatively coupled to the local user system through a network communication link. The local user system is used to monitor the network communication link and suspend processing of remote events in response to detecting a quality of service problem.

Description

Background technique [0001] Patients with implantable medical devices (IMDs) may need to periodically retrieve information from the IMDs to assess device operation and patient device monitoring history. It may also be necessary to update software used by the IMD or to provide therapy for patients with IMDs. Retrieving information from the IMD, programming the IMD, or providing therapy to the patient with the IMD is typically performed during a patient session. Patient sessions can be in clinics or other locations, such as implant centers. During each patient session, both a clinician (eg, an equipment nurse / technician or physician) and an equipment representative of the company providing the IMD can be present. Clinicians can assist patients during IMD information retrieval, programming, and / or treatment, and device representatives can ensure proper operation of the IMD. Given the number of patients with IMD, these patient sessions are expensive. Contents of the invention...
