Abstract

The present invention relates to methods and systems for engine water injection. Methods and systems are provided for assessing the quality of water in a water injection system using existing engine sensors. Changes in manifold charge temperature after water injection may be compared to changes in intake oxygen level to determine an error between the amount of water delivered to the engine and the amount of water actually used in the engine. The error can be related to water quality and used to correct subsequent water injection commands.
