The method includes receiving a target message; determining a target application which the target message belongs to, and a target application type corresponding to the target application; if the target application type satisfies preset conditions, displaying the target message as a folded state; and if the target application type does not satisfy the preset conditions, displaying the target message as an unfolded state. In this way, the target message can be displayed as the folded state or the unfolded state according to whether the target application type satisfies the preset conditions. The mixing of the received messages can be avoided, and the messages are displayed more concisely in a notification bar ofthe mobile terminal.
