The present invention provides an optical scanning device, an image forming device, and an abnormality detection method capable of improving the degree of freedom in the arrangement position of a temperature sensor for detecting abnormal temperature of a bearing. The optical scanning device includes a light source, a rotating polyhedron, a motor, a bearing and a detection processing unit. The polyhedron is rotated to scan the light emitted from the light source. The motor rotates the rotating polyhedron. The bearing supports the rotating shaft of the motor so as to be rotatable. When the motor is driven at a first speed faster than a predetermined reference speed, the detection processing unit detects that the temperature of the bearing exceeds a preset allowable temperature based on the air temperature detected at a position within a predetermined first range away from the bearing. Abnormal state, when the motor is driven at the second speed below the reference speed, the abnormal state is not detected.
