Embodiment Construction

[0037] Embodiments disclosed herein relate to devices and methods for monitoring or treating wounds with or without reduced pressure, including, for example, negative pressure sources and wound dressing components and devices. Devices and components including wound covering material and filler material or inner layer, if any, are sometimes collectively referred to herein as a dressing. In some embodiments, a wound dressing may be provided for use without reducing pressure.

[0038] Some embodiments disclosed herein relate to wound therapy for the human or animal body. Thus, any reference herein to a wound may refer to a wound on a human or animal body, and any reference herein to a body may refer to a human or animal body. In addition to its broad ordinary meaning, the term "wound" as used herein includes any part of a patient's body that can be treated using negative pressure. It should be understood that the term "wound" is to be broadly construed to mean and encompass bot...

Abstract

In some embodiments, a wound dressing that incorporates a number of sensors or sensors separate from the wound dressing can be utilized in order to monitor characteristics of a wound as it heals or toidentify one or more risk factors or conditions that may precipitate a wound. In some implementations, a wound dressing configured to be positioned in contact with a wound includes a substantially flexible substrate supporting one or more sensors. The one or more sensors can include temperature sensors, conductivity sensors, multispectral optical measurements sensors, pH sensors, pressure sensors, colorimetric sensors, optical sensors, ultraviolet (UV) sensors, or infrared (IR) sensors.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments described herein relate to devices, systems, and methods for monitoring or treating wounds, eg, using a combination of dressings and negative pressure wound therapy. Background technique [0002] The treatment of open or chronic wounds that are too large to close spontaneously or otherwise fail to heal by applying negative pressure to the wound site is well known in the art. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) systems currently known in the art typically involve placing a fluid-impermeable or semi-permeable covering over the wound, using various means to seal the covering to the patient's tissue surrounding the wound, and to A source of negative pressure (eg, a vacuum pump) is connected to the covering in such a way that negative pressure is generated and maintained beneath the covering. This negative pressure is believed to promote wound healing by promoting the formation of granulation tissue at the wound site and assisting the body's...
