Embodiment Construction

[0028] While examples and features of the disclosed principles are described herein, modifications, adaptations, and other implementations are possible without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosed embodiments. Moreover, the words "comprising", "having", "containing" and "including" and other similar forms are intended to be equivalent in meaning and should be construed as open-ended , such that one or more items following any of these words is not intended to be an exhaustive list of said one or more items, nor is it intended to be limited to only the listed one or more items. The singular forms "a", "an" and "the" are intended to include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.

[0029] Systems and methods consistent with the present disclosure relate to segmenting medical images of a subject using a learning algorithm trained using a mapping atlas derived from previous images of the same subject. Specifically, embodiments of the presen...

Abstract

Embodiments disclose methods and systems for segmenting medical images. In some embodiments, the system includes a database configured to store a plurality of medical images acquired by the image acquisition device. The plurality of images includes at least one first medical image of the subject and a second medical image of the subject, each first medical image being associated with a first structural signature map. The system also includes a processor configured to: register the at least one first medical image to the second medical image; determine a classifier using the registered first medical image and the corresponding first structural labeling map a model; and using the classifier model to determine a second structural labeling map associated with the second medical image.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 281,652, filed January 21, 2016, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to image segmentation. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to systems and methods for accurate medical image segmentation using previous image information of a patient to assist segmentation of subsequent images of the patient. Background technique [0004] Image segmentation techniques are widely used to segment medical images and determine contours between anatomical structures within an image. For example, in radiation therapy, automatic organ segmentation is often performed to reduce contouring time and improve contour accuracy and consistency across hospitals. However, automatic segmentation of images remains a very difficult task due to noise, limited...
