Therefore, when the line speed is higher than a certain level, the frequency of TES due to track drift may exceed the bandwidth limit of the servo system
Therefore, the track drift effect may limit the linear velocity of the optical ribbon

Abstract

In at least one embodiment, an optical data storage tape is provided. The optical data storage tape includes a read / write data area including a plurality of writeable tracks for storing data thereon, each writeable track having a first track width. The optical data storage tape further includes a seam area positioned proximate to the read / write data area. The seam area comprises a plurality of non-writeable tracks, each non-writeable track including a second track width that is greater than the first track width for each writeable track.

Description

technical field [0001] Aspects disclosed herein generally relate to optical ribbons that include increased track pitch for improved tracking performance after seaming. These and other aspects will be discussed in more detail herein. Background technique [0002] During optical ribbon manufacturing, the optical ribbon is manufactured by embossing a track pattern from a circular drum structure with four shim sections. The junction area between the two spacer parts may produce a mirrored area on the optical tape without a track pattern, which is generally defined as a seam area. So the servo can reacquire focus and tracking after each seam area (or after each seam jump). During the track acquisition operation after the seam jump, the servo system can actuate the optical pickup unit (OPU) based on the tracking error signal (TES) to follow the track pitch on the optical tape. However, due to precision limitations during the manufacture of embosser drums (or drums), drums inclu...
