Embodiment Construction

[0029] refer to the attached Figure 4 , showing a portion of the fuselage 10 of a commercial airliner. Section 10 includes a business class area 12 to the rear and a first class area 14 to the front. In front of the first class area 14 is a front porch area 16 . The portion of the aircraft depicted also has a port passenger door 18 and a starboard passenger door 20 . In front of the front porch area 16 is a kitchen 22 and an enclosed utility space 24 . Normally this space 24 is used as a toilet.

[0030] The business class area 12 is open and has seating installed therein in a known herringbone arrangement. The seats include individual outboard seats 26 and pairs of inboard seats 28 . In a known manner, the outboard seats 26 are arranged generally forward facing but at an angle to the axis of the fuselage 10 such that the outboard seats overlap longitudinally so that the foot wells of the rear outboard seats 26 face the outboard side of the forward seat. and forward ext...

Abstract

A cabin module for a commercial aircraft includes a set of bulkheads defining quadrants with inner side walls and converging side walls. The module is subdivided by a removable partition that divides the module into two passenger compartments. The quadrant shape of the modules enables them to overlap adjacent seating areas, thereby utilizing the otherwise underutilized space between seating areas. In a particular form, the modules define a single central aisle transitioning from a rear pair of parallel aisles via a Y-shaped transition area.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a passenger accommodation arrangement in the fuselage of an airliner. The present invention relates particularly, but not exclusively, to the layout of cabin modules and accommodation spaces in passenger aircraft. Background technique [0002] Various regulatory authorities (eg, the US Federal Aviation Administration) set flight safety standards. For passenger aircraft, these standards include things like minimum aisle widths in passenger living areas and "crew assistance spaces" where airline staff next to exit doors can stand and assist passengers in exiting the aircraft in the event of an emergency evacuation. Assist space is specified as a minimum 20" x 12" area next to a minimum 36" wide escape path leading to the door. There's also a "90-second rule" that states the plane must be able to evacuate all passengers within 90 seconds. All of these requirements must be built into any new layout of aircraft living spa...
