Embodiment Construction

[0029] The proposed measurement circuit for estimating the resistance of a resistive gas sensor will now be described in more detail hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show different embodiments of the measurement circuit. However, measurement circuits may be implemented in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will fully convey the scope of the measurement circuits to those skilled in the art . The figures are not necessarily drawn to scale, but rather are configured to clearly illustrate the design of the measurement circuits.

[0030] In order to determine the resistance of the resistive gas sensor, a measuring circuit connected to the resistive gas sensor can be used. figure 1 A conventional embodiment of a measurement circuit MC' coupled to a resistive gas sensor GS is shown. The resistive gas sensor GS comprises a resisto...

Abstract

A measuring circuit (MC) for estimating the resistance of a resistive gas sensor (GS) comprises a first current path (P1), wherein a first logarithmic compression circuit (LC1) is arranged in the first current path (P1) . A reference resistor (Rreference) and a second logarithmic compression circuit (LC2) are arranged in the second current path (P2) of the measurement circuit (MC). The voltage generator (VG) provides a fixed voltage excitation for the resistive gas sensor (GS) and the reference resistor (Rreference). A first current (I1) received from the resistive gas sensor (GS) flows from the gas sensor (GS) into a first logarithmic compression circuit (LC1) via a first current path (P1). An evaluation circuit (EC) determines the resistance (Rs) of the resistive gas sensor (GS) from the first and second output signals (Ve1, Ve2) of the first and second logarithmic compression circuits (LC1, LC2).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of constructing wide dynamic range gas sensor measurement circuits, for example circuits having sensor currents of a factor 10000 to 50000 between their minimum and maximum current ranges (eg sensor currents ranging from nA to mA). In particular, the invention relates to a measurement circuit for evaluating an output signal of a resistive gas sensor. Background technique [0002] Resistive gas sensors are commonly used to detect the presence of specific gas components, for example, to monitor environmentally relevant gases such as carbon monoxide and methane in the atmosphere to which the gas sensor is exposed. Commonly used chemically sensitive materials for detecting gas components to which resistive gas sensors are exposed are oxides, for example, metal oxides such as tin oxide, tungsten oxide, or indium oxide. The oxide is characterized by a considerable change in electrical resistance depending on the availabili...
